Qualifying earnings are all your earnings between a lower and upper limit for any tax year. For the 2022/23 tax year the lower limit is £6,240 and the upper limit £50,270. The government reviews these limits every year and we’ll tell you if they change.
Qualifying earnings must include:
- statutory sick pay
- statutory parental leave pay (maternity, paternity and adoption pay).
For example: if all your earnings, including a bonus, total £25,000 a year, your qualifying earnings are £25,000-£6,240 = £18,760.
