The world’s population currently stands at 8 billion people, but by the end of the century, this is predicted to rise to 11 billion. As more people live longer and reach retirement age, policymakers across the world are asking whether they are doing enough to financially prepare for an increasing ageing population.

Residents at Phoenix Commons, California, are fighting old age, poverty and social isolation with a new way to live communally.
