NOW: Pensions is looking for a Temporary Head of PR and Campaigns to join the Marketing team, for up to 12 months (fixed term).

The Head of Public Relations & Campaigns (PR&C) is responsible for developing NOW: Pensions external communications, protecting and developing the organisations reputation and leading the PR and Campaigns Team.

Purpose

  • Strategy: Define, develop, and implement an innovative and compelling PR and Communication strategy aligned to the business strategy and plan.  Uphold its brand and reputation. Create internal and external communication opportunities and identify and anticipate threats; proactively develop appropriate strategies to define and manage them.
  • Incident management: Proactively manage risk and initiate solutions which consider strategic implications for the business and wider pensions and regulatory landscape.
  • Senior relationships: Work closely with the leadership team to advise on the development of channels and networks throughout the organisation to amplify key messages at all levels. Work closely with the Exco team and CEOs and plan and execute campaigns and events to increase external stakeholder engagement aligned to the business strategy.
  • Profile and Reputation: Proactively cultivate and manage NOW:Pensions media image by establishing and leveraging relationships with relevant stakeholders to effectively position the business in a wide range of local, national, and international media as part of the integrated approach to PR, communications and events, and to manage the press office and engagement with all external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Spokesperson: Be the Press and Media spokesperson for NOW:Pensions in particular championing our purpose-lead Underpensioned and GPG platforms.
  • Direct Media relations: Produce and deliver an annual media plan managing all media enquiries, proactive and reactive commentary along with active crisis management.
  • Planning and delivery of events: Design and deliver a programme of external events to support the business objectives, campaigns and wider business goals.
  • Develop and implement campaigns and communications: Design and deliver a programme of brand, corporate and business campaigns, across all owned and paid for channels.
  • Managing external agencies: Appoint, on-board and manage PR, Campaign, social media and marketing agencies to deliver the annual PR & Campaign plan.
  • Sponsorship: Source and establish sponsorship partners and programmes aligned with the business objectives and strategy i.e. Debate Mate, Pension Awareness.
  • Content Production: Design, write and produce content for Press Releases, Blogs, Website content and industry reports.
  • Identifying and sharing key industry developments: Attend key industry and regulatory events, bring back insights with the wider business and relevant teams.
  • Supporting the public affairs team where there is joint PR activity and assist the Director of Policy with government consultation responses.
  • Briefing internal stakeholders before media and broadcast interviews and act as a PR representative in the interviews when required.
  • Media relations: Build and uphold strong, lasting relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences through communications and engagement activities, including local, national and international media.
  • Press office: To ensure that PR and communications activity is agile and responsive, ensuring delivery in a timely and accurate manner, and excellent ongoing monitoring and reaction to PR and communication issues.
  • Press releases: To coordinate the development of press releases, press kits and training for newsletters and regular communications from NOW: campaigns and related PR material that showcases any successes for internal and external audiences.
  • Media Monitoring: To monitor the results of all public/media relations, and internal and external communications, measuring their impact and effectiveness and prepare detailed media activity and insight reports for regular dissemination to ExCo and key institutional stakeholders to inform decision making and future planning.
  • Budget management: Prepare and manage the annual PR & Campaigns budget as part of the overall annual marketing plan.
  • Line-management: Manage a PR & Campaigns Manager and Social Media Manager.

Experience

  • Extensive experience of working at a senior level in PR, media and campaigns.
  • People leadership, having successfully managed a high performing PR and Campaigns team. Brand management, having managed the profile and reputation of a significant business or brand.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Pension sector, ideally familiar with Auto Enrolment.
  • Well established media profile, network and relationships with key industry and media figures and ability to build and grow this.
  • Significant experience of reputation management and handling crisis communications.
  • Able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of events, digital and social media marketing and communications.
  • Able to reflect on best practice for PR and campaigns to evaluate the effectiveness of communication, brand and reputation.
