now:pensions.com accessibility statement

Aligning with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), we work hard to make sure that our website is accessible to people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities, including those who use assistive technologies like screen readers or magnifiers.

We’re constantly working to improve the accessibility of our website and we’re proud to say that we meet the WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines. In fact, our recent audit showed that 97% of the pages on our website have appropriate alt text for images and graphics.

What we’re doing for accessibility on nowpensions.com

  • Ensuring that all content can be accessed using a keyboard.
  • Using clear and simple language throughout our website.
  • Providing captions and transcripts for all videos.
  • Ensuring compatibility with screen readers and other assistive technologies.

Assistive technology and browser compatibility

Our mission is to provide simple, no-nonsense pension solutions that help people save for their future. We believe that accessibility is a crucial part of this mission, as it ensures that everyone can access our services and information, regardless of their abilities or disabilities.

As part of our commitment to making sure our website is accessible to the widest possible audience we support all major browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera, Microsoft Edge, and Brave.

Our site also works seamlessly with leading screen readers like JAWS and NVDA on Windows and Mac. And we’re constantly expanding our compatibility, so you can count on us to support the latest assistive technologies.

Measures to support accessibility on now:u

  • Plain English: we’re committed to making our website text as simple as possible to understand.
  • Responsive design: the now:u website will detect and respond to any mobile device or tablet, resizing images and layout to fit correctly.
  • Screen reader compatibility: our site is regularly tested with popular screen reading technologies. Key interface components include alternative text to describe their function.
  • Keyboard navigation: we make sure users can navigate through our site without a mouse by relying on the keyboard alone
  • Text resizing: you can resize text using your browser settings or operating system tools. Our layouts aim to remain legible and user-friendly at various magnifications and screen sizes.
  • Emails: our emails will look best in modern webmail programs like Gmail and outlook.com.There may be some visual differences in older desktop applications like Microsoft Outlook.

Ongoing testing and improvement

We regularly review our digital products to check for accessibility issues. This includes:

  • automated testing and manual audits
  • testing sessions to understand areas that may need improvement
  • teporting and managing defects

But you may find some sections of our site, or content from third parties, that aren’t fully accessible. For example, some PDF document content may not always meet accessibility standards, especially when it’s been generated by third-party software. We’re continually working with our partners and vendors to address these issues. This includes:

  • skipping to the main content when using a screen reader
  • changing the font size in Chrome settings
  • providing on-page controls to change the text size
  • showing breadcrumbs on all pages to provide a clear site hierarchy
  • fully-responsive design for our employers and payroll bureaus.

On mobile

Our mobile app is available on the Apple and Android app stores. We support iOs versions 15,16,17.3 and Android versions 12,13,14 and we only support portrait orientation.

The mobile app benefits from the same accessibility standards covered above. But we’ll continue working to improve the useability of some features in the app and website, including the following.

  • Forms and form interaction.
  • Keyboard focusing and keyboard interactions including:
      • field inputs formatting
      • form controls and guidance.
  • Retirement planner – sliders may be challenging for users with visual impairments or motor disabilities.
  • Navigation and buttons – back buttons.

Digital help

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Visual impairment
To increase the text size on your internet browser, go to the settings menu. We’re sorry to say that changing the font size in Chrome settings doesn’t currently work in now:u but we are working on this. Most browsers also have a text-to-speech function that reads out any text on the screen.

Hearing and speech difficulties
All the videos on our website use closed captions, so you can read everything that’s being said.

Help with PDF documents
You can download a free version of Adobe Reader to read PDF documents.
Adobe Reader also allows you to extract the text of an Adobe PDF document and save it as a text file, so you can read it on a note-taker or emboss it with a Braille printer.

Help with MS Office
Downloadable files on the site may include Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. The Microsoft website has detailed information on accessibility support for Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
