NOW: Pensions, which provides 1.7 million people with a workplace pension, is gearing up for a road trip around the UK to raise awareness of retirement savings. The provider has been named a Partner Sponsor of the 2019 Pension Awareness Campaign Camper Van.
For the sixth consecutive year, savings crusaders “Pension Geeks” will team up with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Pension Wise for a whistle-stop tour of the UK. They’ll be dropping in on towns across the country to chat to locals – of all ages – about their pension plans.
The aim of the week-long roadshow – which will culminate on Pension Awareness Day on 15 September – is to get people thinking about their life after work and assess their pension savings.
Research shows that savers are currently not putting away enough for their retirement and don’t even know how much they should be saving.
NOW: Pensions hopes to educate people up and down the UK about the importance of saving for their retirement– and the huge disparity between male and female pension pots. Advisors will join experts from Pension Geeks, DWP and Pension Wise onboard the Camper Van and be on hand to offer advice and answer questions from locals.
This year, the Pension Awareness Campaign Camper Van will visit the following cities:
- Monday 9th September – Edinburgh
- Tuesday 10th September – Newcastle
- Wednesday 11th September – York
- Thursday 12th September – Nottingham
- Friday 13th September – Cardiff
- Saturday 14th September – Weston Super-Mare
- Sunday 15th September (Pension Awareness Day) – Peterborough
Patrick Luthi, CEO of NOW: Pensions said: “We are so excited to be joining Pension Geeks on their Pension Awareness Campaign road trip around the UK. It will be great to get out into communities and speak with people about the necessity of putting away money for retirement.
“Pension saving can be difficult, especially for women who face the gender pay gap and often take time out of work to look after children. Pension Awareness Day does a great job of raising the importance of saving and by teaming up with the campaign we can work together to educate people – particularly women – about their pension pots. This campaign builds on the work that we are already doing to highlight inequalities in the UK pensions system.
“I encourage everyone – no matter their age, gender or employment status – to learn more about their pension and what they can do to mitigate the gender pensions gap by visiting us on our roadshow across the UK.”
Jonathan Bland, ‘Head Geek’ at Pension Geeks, said: “The reality is that many people are not saving enough throughout their lives to secure a decent income for their future. This is particularly true for women, who take time out of work to care for children or other family members, so we’re keen to work alongside NOW: Pensions to highlight the gender pensions gap and educate people on what this means for them and how we can all help to close the gap.
We started Pension Awareness Day to help people understand more about their pensions so that they can prepare for a happier retirement. We find the best way to engage with people, on a complex subject such as pensions is face to face rather than over the phone or online. We have a much more personal approach which is more likely to leave people feeling satisfied and clearer on the information being given to them and remove some of the unnecessary jargon in our industry.
We are excited to be joined by NOW: Pensions as our Partner Sponsor for 2019 and look forward to speaking to people across the UK about their pensions and savings.”
